However, many Parks/Resorts may only allow a dog restricted to your tent/caravan/RV.

The top 10 tips for pet friendly holidays within Australia
- It was quite common that a web site may say “dog allowed” but there were also many that said “subject to approval”. Our view is, keep it simple and uniform across the board by phoning ahead to any property and get your dog approved before your booking is made. Wherever possible we have included all phone numbers as well as web addresses.
- Very few properties had dog beds, bowls, etc., so make sure you have room to include all those things from home.
- A lot of properties have the basic rules such as clean up and dispose of your pet’s droppings, restrain with a collar and lead on the property, do not allow them on furniture. Where a property has a Pet Policy on their website, we have included a link to that document.
- Some properties will charge a higher rate per night for your dog. Many properties may also charge a refundable bond and/or cleaning fee. Bear in mind though that this is still cheaper than leaving your dog behind in a dog motel.
- As you travel the country, we have so many amazing sights and walks such as; beaches, State Forest, State Parks, National Parks and World Heritage sites. Read all your signage at any of these natural wonders and make sure that dogs are permitted or not.
- Always carry litter bags with you as well as water for your dog. Be particularly careful where you may be camping and the campsite may permit dogs, but it also backs on to a Forest of Park where dogs are banned.
- When travelling to our far Northern areas such as in Queensland and the Northern Territory be aware of the heat, and seasonal weather differences to the Southern areas of Australia. In those same areas also be aware of signage warning of natural dangers such as Crocodiles, Sharks, poisonous Jelly Fish, different types of snakes along with a greater number of ticks. Make sure your dog’s vaccinations, flea and worm treatments are up to date as some accommodation properties request that on their websites.
- Taking your dog with you from the mainland to travel to Tasmania is not something you can do automatically. There are conditions put in place by the Tasmanian State Government relating to up-to-date vaccinations. We have greater content on that requirement in the Tasmania section of this guide.
- As a precaution, when you are travelling interstate or intrastate our advice would be to go online with local government sites and search for any restrictions or requirements regarding dogs. It is better to be safe than sorry.
- Make sure that any state or territory borders that you want to cross have reopened after COVID-19 closures. Likewise, make sure that any featured properties in this guide are also open and trading.

Snug is a small seaside town around a 20-minute drive south of Hobart. It is also a town that has seen hard times, with massive bushfires in 1967 that destroyed around two thirds of the homes.
The park offers free WIFI, coin-operated laundry, usual toilet amenities, Camp Kitchen and BBQ facilities.
As well as camping sites they have powered sites for caravans and some sites are large enough to house RV’s and 5th wheelers.
Their sites are pet friendly by arrangement; it would be best to discuss this with them prior to making your booking.

Southport Hotel and Caravan Park – Far South Tasmania
This seaside town is just under 100KM south of Hobart, and takes a drive of around 1.5 hours to get there.
There some great ways of enjoying nature in this region including the Tahune Airwalk, Hastings Cave and Thermal Springs.
There is also the Ida Bay railway for something a bit different.
The camping ground is dog friendly and has a selection of powered and unpowered sites.
The park includes the usual amenities block, Camp Kitchen, BBQ and laundry.

Cambridge is a suburb of Hobart situated on the eastern side of the River Derwent midway between the CBD and Airport.
It is a short drive into the CBD and conveniently located for heading in all directions.

Swansea is a seaside town on the shores of Great Oyster Bay.
It also overlooks the famous Freycinet National Park.

Devonport is a city on the north coast of Tasmania and is the home of the ferry service between Tasmania and Melbourne.

Burnie Ocean View Motel & Holiday Caravan Park
The port city of Burnie is on the NW coast of Tasmania with an Art Deco vibe appearing on many city buildings.
It is a great place to have as a base while you explore the local coastline, arts and crafts as well as boutique produce farms.

Situated on a small peninsula in NW Tasmania, Stanley is a fishing port and tourist destination.
The skyline of this small town is “The Nut” a 150M volcanic plug that rises up out of the sea. You can even take a chairlift to the top for some mighty views.
