If you drive 126km NW from Hobart you will find the small country town of Tarraleah. It was originally built as an accommodation base for workers on the hydroelectric construction. Since then it has been turned into the Tarraleah Lodge and the area caters to many outdoor pursuits; even boasting a high-altitude golf course.

The Highlander Caravan Park is an ideal stopover when open over the Summer months only. Dogs are allowed but must sleep in your vehicle due to the native fauna and farm animals on the property. At all other times they must be on a lead, well controlled and bark free.

If you have ever wanted to explore one of Tasmania’s offshore islands then Bruny Island is a stunning, natural destination that is sure to please. You can catch the car ferry from Kettering on the mainland (around 32km south of Hobart), and it drops you to Roberts Point on Bruny Island. At 362sq KM there are many places to explore. There are also many awesome sights as well as fauna such as fur seals, fairy penguins, wedge-tail eagles, albatross and even white wallabies. There are also boutique producers here, such as an Oyster farm, cheese factory and vineyard.

For the purposes of this section of the Tasmania guide we are focusing mainly on South Bruny, where nature rules with awesome unspoiled beaches, a lagoon and forests to delight your senses.

The property we have chosen to showcase here is a privately owned property, consisting of a 50-acre private forest and 750M of coastline and private beach. They have a mixture of camp sites and even a glamping tent. In addition to the stunning location they are dog friendly for the camp sites.

You cannot just turn up at the property; access is strictly by appointment only and must also call to get directions to the property. Your hosts are Phil and Karen; the do open on weekends for pre-bookings Friday to Sunday. Mobile coverage can be patchy at times so try the landline if unable to get them by Mobile.

There is so much to see in Hobart and the south east that having a great base is a must. Risdon is a great location without being right in the city. It has easy access to head in many directions and is very close to one of the Derwent River bridges for getting to places such as MONA only a short drive.

This park is dog friendly, offers free WIFI, BBQ area, playground, laundry, a bouncing pillow and sports facilities.

The dog friendly accommodation at this park is limited to powered sites and ensuite powered sides; as well as occasionally a budget cabin. Approval is needed in advance and is subject to availability and the managers discretion.

Berri is around 238KM NE of Adelaide in the Riverland region. It is a great place for fishing, boating and water skiing as well as being famous for agriculture, in particular citrus and grapes.

This property has unpowered and powered sites as their dog friendly options. It is set in 8HA of grounds with the center piece being the 22M X 26M beach pool that is both shaded and solar heated.
